Volunteering

Volunteering at Mawil Sea Turtle Sanctuary is more than just helping—it’s becoming part of a meaningful mission to protect one of nature’s most ancient and gentle creatures. Located along the pristine shores of Mawil Beach, West Sumbawa, our sanctuary welcomes volunteers from around the world to join hands with local communities in sea turtle conservation.

Volunteers assist in nightly beach patrols to monitor nesting turtles, protect eggs from predators, and record important data for research. During the hatching season, you’ll help guide baby turtles safely to the ocean, witnessing one of the most moving moments in nature. Other activities include beach cleanups, educational outreach, and supporting eco-tourism programs that promote sustainable livelihoods.

No special experience is needed—just a love for nature, teamwork, and a willingness to learn. Our staff provides guidance, training, and cultural exchange opportunities, making every volunteer experience meaningful and memorable.

By volunteering at Mawil, you directly contribute to the preservation of sea turtles and the empowerment of local communities. Every action, from patrolling the beach to sharing awareness, helps ensure that future generations can continue to witness these incredible creatures return to Mawil’s shores.
