April 3–5, 2026 | Mawil Beach, West Sumbawa, Indonesia
West Sumbawa, Indonesia – The 2nd Tour de Mawil, taking place from April 3 to 5, 2026, brings together motorbike communities, environmental advocates, students, and local residents in a unique, purpose-driven journey to protect sea turtles and coastal ecosystems.
Unlike conventional conservation programs, Mawil’s approach prioritizes natural hatchery protection, allowing sea turtle eggs to develop and hatch in their original nesting sites. This method preserves the turtles’ natural instincts and strengthens their chances of survival in the wild.
Participants will travel from Lombok (Mataram City) to Sumbawa, crossing land and sea before arriving at Mawil Beach—an important nesting ground within the Tatar Sepang Coastal Turtle Conservation Area, as designated under the West Sumbawa Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW No. 11/2020).
Throughout the three-day event, participants will engage in a series of impactful activities, including:
- Cross-island touring from Lombok to Sumbawa, crossing 2 hours on Alas Strait, gold mining infrastructure facilities, tropical rain forests, riding along cattle barricade, and crystal clear fresh water streams
- Coastal clean-up actions to ensure safe nesting pathways, not only plastic waste but also patch of wood and bushes
- Natural hatchery protection and awareness sessions
- “Conservation Goes to School” programs for K–12 students with fun game, coloring book, and roleplay drama
- Community engagement and sustainable tourism experiences
- and the unforgotten memory: Sea turtle nesting observation and hatchling releases
According to the Mawil Sea Turtle Conservation Group (KOMPAK Penyu Mawil), the event is designed to build a broader conservation movement by connecting communities through shared experiences.
“Tour de Mawil is more than a ride—it is a movement. By combining adventure with education and conservation action, we aim to inspire people of all ages to protect sea turtles and their habitats,” a representative stated.
A key highlight of this 2nd program is the “Conservation Goes to School” initiative, which introduces young students K6 to marine conservation through interactive learning, storytelling, and direct exposure to real-world conservation efforts. The program aims to cultivate early awareness and long-term environmental stewardship among the next generation.
In parallel, coastal clean-up activities will focus on removing marine debris and natural obstructions that may hinder sea turtles from nesting safely or prevent hatchlings from reaching the ocean.
The event also reinforces Mawil’s commitment to community-based ecotourism, ensuring that conservation efforts generate sustainable benefits for local communities while preserving the integrity of the coastal ecosystem.
Tour de Mawil 2026 is going to be conducted again in the coming month next to the Indonesia Independence day, in August 2026 with more participants and agendas.
