May 1–3, 2026 | Mawil Beach, West Sumbawa, Indonesia
West Sumbawa, Indonesia – The spirit of conservation and education came together in Tour de Mawil-3, held from May 1 to 3, 2026, at Mawil Beach. Carrying the theme “One Journey, A Thousand Lessons,” the event provided a meaningful outdoor learning experience for young participants while promoting sea turtle conservation.
A total of 30 young participants joined the journey, combining a cross-island touring experience with hands-on environmental education. Organized in celebration of Indonesia’s National Education Day, the program highlighted the importance of experiential learning beyond the classroom, connecting youth directly with nature and conservation efforts. Participants came from Students of Tourism Institute of Mataram (STP Mataram), NTB Diver Community (Kapela NTB), Student of University of Mataram, Center of Marine Spatial Planning of Makassar, dan KOMPAK (local sea turtle conservation group).Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in a range of activities, including coastal clean-up actions, conservation education sessions, and field observation of sea turtle habitats. These activities aimed to build awareness, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
One of the most memorable moments occurred when participants encountered three mother sea turtles laying eggs along Mawil Beach. In line with the conservation approach practiced at Mawil, the eggs were left to hatch naturally in their original nesting sites, supporting a natural hatchery system that preserves the turtles’ instinctive behavior and increases their survival chances.
“This journey is not just about riding together, but about learning together,” said a representative of the organizing team. “Witnessing sea turtles nesting in the wild has given participants a powerful lesson on why conservation matters.”
Tour de Mawil-3 reinforces the role of community-based conservation, where local action, education, and sustainable practices work hand in hand to protect biodiversity. The event also strengthens Mawil’s position as a growing hub for eco-education and sustainable tourism in West Sumbawa.
